Rayk Goetze, Tilo Baumgärtel et al.: The Leipzig School

For this year’s Christmas exhibition, Galerie Schimming is showing not only new works by selected artists of the gallery, such as sculptures by Heiner Meyer and photographic paintings by Lois Renner, but also, as a special feature, a collaboration with artists from Leipzig. The special exhibition integrated into our group show, entitled ‘Above the Clouds’ and curated by Molina Ghosh from the Baumwollspinnerei, shows a selection of artists from the circle of the New Leipzig School: Tilo Baumgärtel, Katrin Heichel, Rayk Goetze, Zora Berweger, Nina K. Doege, Edgar Leciejewski, Juliana Ortiz, Molina Ghosh, Johannes Rochhausen, Nadin Rüfenacht and Justus Jager. This small special show serves as a preview of an exhibition planned for next year with artists of the New Leipzig School and aims to draw Hamburg’s attention to the artistic work at the Leipzig Spinnerei, which is associated with many big names such as Neo Rauch.

The newly hung group show of gallery artists includes not only artists such as Niclas Castello and Simon Nelke but also new editions by Alex Katz and Julian Schnabel, to which we are devoting particular attention. We are also presenting the new Jahresgabe (annual edition) of the KUNSTCLUB HAMBURG, designed this year by Lois Renner and intended for our members.
