The Galerie Schimming in Hamburg is situated at Jungfrauenthal 4 in Harvestehude, just a stone’s throw from Klosterstern. Since 2003, we have been exhibiting contemporary painting, sculpture and photography here, with changing exhibitions, private viewings and the Kunstclub Hamburg.
Galerie Schimming is a gallery for contemporary art, founded in 2003, based at Jungfrauenthal 4 in Hamburg-Harvestehude, just a few steps from Klosterstern. In changing exhibitions we present contemporary painting, sculpture and photography, from established international names to younger contemporary voices.
In Hamburg since 2003
Founded by Birgit Schimming, the gallery has grown over more than twenty years into a wide network of art lovers, long-standing collectors and artists. For many years we were also at home on Sylt with a branch of the gallery, and we have presented large exhibitions at the Barlach Halle K. Since December 2025, the showroom Nave 6A in Palma de Mallorca has also been part of the gallery. Hamburg remains our point of departure: this is where the programme takes shape, where the holdings are kept, and where the Kunstclub Hamburg has been at home since 2003.
Our approach
Our standard has remained the same over all these years. We represent our artists not as names on a market but for their work, often across many years and several exhibitions. We take time for every conversation and advise personally and confidentially, from selection to hanging, in Hamburg, its surroundings and on Mallorca.
Your visit
Those who visit us at Jungfrauenthal will find a carefully chosen selection and people who truly know their artists and their works. The gallery is open Tuesday to Friday from 10 am to 6 pm and Saturday from 11 am to 4 pm, and at any other time by appointment. Do come by, and we will find a time that suits you.

Young Art
With the Young Art exhibitions we have for many years been giving promising talents a first stage. Many of these positions then remain part of the gallery’s programme, and we continue to support them.
Kunstclub Hamburg
Founded in 2003, the Kunstclub Hamburg brings together people who not only want to view art but also to understand and share it: with guided tours of selected exhibitions of the year in Hamburg, art trips, studio visits and the gallery’s own events.
15² – Art in Schools
With the charitable project 15² – Art in Schools we have been bringing original works and their artists directly into Hamburg’s classrooms since 2009: artists accompany a class for half a school term, with a ‘suitcase full of art’, studio visits and joint visits to exhibitions.
