Petra Dannehl, Sylvia Goebel and Jörg Länger: Between figurative painting and abstraction

4 – 11 June 2016

The works of Sylvia Goebel, Petra Dannehl and Jörg Länger harmonise in their diversity, which ranges from ‘classical’ oil painting to a handful of sculptures and experimental mixed media on wood or Alu Dibond. What they share is a formal language that subtly creeps into the viewer’s consciousness. What differs is their degree of detachment from representational art: whilst in Petra Dannehl’s work the figures depicted can be situated to a greater or lesser extent within the (pictorial) space, the figures in Jörg Länger’s paintings partially dissolve, whereas Sylvia Göbel strips her works on display in the exhibition of any defined figuration, thereby achieving the highest degree of abstraction.
