Photography

24 May – 14 June 2020

As Christian Voigt’s exhibition cannot take place until further notice, we are nevertheless offering you the opportunity to view all the works from the planned exhibition online.

Born in Munich, he lives and works in Hamburg and the south of France. His current studio is in Hamburg.

Christian Voigt works with digital and analogue large-format cameras. He experiments with new photographic techniques and makes the most of the digital medium. In the museum edition, his large-format prints are up to eight metres wide. However, his strictly limited editions are also available in sizes that clients and collectors can hang on more modest walls.

Christian Voigt has developed a visual language capable of telling new stories. He is constantly refining a visual language that conveys the stories he wishes to tell and the emotions he seeks to evoke. This is evident in his images; landscape and architecture are his main areas of interest, but he also produces portraits and nudes. The journeys associated with his projects and locations require concentration and the ability to engage with people, their history and their religion.

His series on the vanished architecture of the past and its reappearance in our time is just as vivid as the eccentricity of today’s societies depicted in his photographs.

“My photographs are created with a camera, not a computer,” he says, referring to the complex technology and processing involved in his creations. “But without today’s computer technology, the images could not be brought to their final form.”

Solo exhibitions and art fairs have taken place in Basel, Hamburg, New York, Los Angeles, London, Saint-Tropez, Amsterdam and Madrid
