Niclas Castello – Expulsion from Paradise
2017
It was in New York that Niclas Castello developed his neo-expressive compositions and his own style, inspired by the readymade concept in art history. In 2016, this internationally active artist first appeared in the top 100 ‘most visited artists’ on artnet.com. Now he is presenting a new concept for his work. In Hamburg, we are presenting the new CubePainting sculptures in three different sizes for the first time as part of a solo exhibition. Anyone looking for more information on Niclas Castello’s new works can find it on our website www.galerieschimming.de
The preview of our solo exhibition “Expulsion from Paradise”, featuring the first Cube Painting shown in public, took place in Leipzig in December. All ten works that the artist had brought with him from New York for the event at the International Business Club were sold that very same evening:
‘On Thursday evening, a unique event took place at the International Club on Käthe-Kollwitz-Straße: the world premiere of “Cube Painting Sculpture No. 1” in front of 100 invited guests. The artwork was initially created as a perfectly normal painting in the studio, but was then deliberately broken up, folded and placed inside a transparent cube by the artist. As a result, visitors can only guess at what lies hidden within the ‘folds’ by using their imagination. (…) The ‘painting in a cube’ was snapped up on the spot at the ‘Night of Art’ – though the buyer will have to wait quite a while before they can display it in their own home. This is because the sculpture series will first be presented to collectors and the general public at several museum exhibitions, including in New York and Cannes.” (Quote: www.lvz.de/Leipzig/Boulevard/Weltpremiere-fuer-zeitgenoessische-Skulptur-Alle-Bilder-von-Niclas-Castello-verkauft)
