History of Pop
26 September – 20 October 2019
With 250 guests in attendance, the exhibition “History of Pop”, featuring new works by the Bielefeld-based artist Heiner Meyer, opened on Thursday evening at the Barlach Halle K on Klosterwall. This marks the eighth time that Galerie Schimming has presented a solo exhibition by the artist. In keeping with the exhibition title ‘History of Pop’, his current works explore the pioneers and the emergence of Pop Art. “Heiner Meyer elevates Pop Art to a contemporary level with his virtuoso and multi-layered paintings, which ironically poke fun at luxury consumption and the obsession with it. In doing so, he always pays homage to other artists such as Basquiat and the fathers of Pop Art, including Warhol, Lichtenstein and Rauschenberg. His art is simply a joy to experience!” says Dr Dorothee Achenbach, who introduced the exhibition with a speech. From Thursday 26 September, Heiner Meyer’s works will be on display in the gallery spaces at Jungfrauenthal.
