1 18 20 – Type
23 October – 5 December 2020
From 23 October to 5 December 2020, Galerie Schimming at Jungfrauenthal 4 in Hamburg is presenting new works by the Berlin-based artist Julian Hoffmann. The exhibition ‘1 18 20 – Art’ showcases the full breadth of his artistic output, ranging from paintings behind old windows to collages of all kinds, sculptures and installations. Julian Hoffmann’s works are multifaceted. They are multi-layered; the only connecting element appears to be the flood of words, phrases and letters that flows through many of his pictures. With his first solo exhibition in three years, the artist once again demonstrates the unconventional paths his art takes, as he brings together elements that clearly do not belong together. From ‘debris’, the waste of a consumer society, Julian Hoffmann composes and constructs new works, transforming everyday objects into art. The exhibition title ‘art’ does not refer to art per se, but rather to the essence that affords the artist the freedom to shape and define concepts of art in diverse ways according to his own creative choices.
