Beneath the Surface
13 September – 27 October 2017
Opening: Wednesday 13 September 2017, 7 pm
Exhibition dates: 14 September to 27 October
Heiner Meyer has received numerous awards throughout his career and has taught at institutions including the HBK in Braunschweig. He is not only a technically accomplished painter, but also knows how to incorporate specific messages for the attentive viewer into his paintings, collages and prints, as well as his sculptures. He does not simply replicate a well-known art movement, but has developed a direction of his own.
Today, his work is represented internationally by around 20 galleries, is shown at art fairs and is held in collections (including those of Tommy Hilfiger, Sean Ferrer Hepburn, Nicolas Zoulas, Sullivan & Cromwell, Museum Würth, Museum Ritter, Museum Oldenburg, JAB Anstoetz, VW/Piech, Escada and the Mang Collection). In a manner reminiscent of Pop Art, Heiner Meyer depicts themes that he has gathered over the years from everyday life and the art world. He sees them as an expression of contemporary reality, confronting us with the glamour and sex appeal of the ubiquitous world of advertising and drawing us into enigmatic narrative scenarios. His sculptural work (handbags, bottles and comic book characters) is also finding collectors not only in Germany but increasingly in the USA and Asia.
