Noemi Kiss, Yvette Kießling, Falko Behrendt: Mixed Media, from Canvas to Concrete

Falko Behrendt

23 August – 29 September 2018

OPENING on 23 August 2018, 7.00 pm, with Noémi Kiss, Yvette Kießling and Falko Behrendt

In our current summer exhibition, we are showing new works by three artists: our two gallery artists, Noémi Kiss and Falko Behrendt, are presenting their works at our gallery at Klosterstern, joined by a new addition, the Leipzig-based artist Yvette Kießling.

As always, Noémi Kiss (*1969) surprises with her floor and wall sculptures in a way that takes up space and, above all, is unusual. The Vienna-based artist plays with the materials of her works, which consist of concrete or carpet and turn conventions on their head. In doing so, she always draws on the cultural appreciation of everyday objects, skilfully revealing new perspectives to the viewer. The artist relies on the gentle collision of incompatible elements, thereby bestowing a new appreciation upon the material.

Falko Behrendt (*1951), a printmaker and watercolourist, creates new figurative works on paper whose delicacy stands in stark contrast to Kiss’s works. In his drawings, etchings, lithographs and screen prints, colourful forms and delicate networks of lines coalesce into experiential spaces in which dreams and memories overlap. Fine lines, a keen sense of colour and composition characterise this painter, whose reputation extends beyond Germany’s borders.

New to the programme is the Leipzig-based artist Yvette Kießling (*1978). A former master student of Arno Rink, she is currently Artist in Residence at the Mayr’schen Haus in Hamburg-Harburg. The artist’s subject matter is the landscape in its purest form, though not in a representational sense, but rather as a playing field for various formal elements. We are exhibiting works on canvas and paper created in 2018 during an artistic journey to Zanzibar. For the first time, we are also presenting the new SANSIBAR portfolio, a box set comprising 5 unique lithographs, 7 etchings and a sound collage from the jungle.

Exhibition dates: 24 August to 29 September 2018 Galerie Schimming, Jungfrauenthal 4
