Quiet laughter
16 April – 23 May 2022
Just in time for the Easter weekend, we have opened Oskar Rink’s exhibition “Leise Lachen” and are bringing her work to the island. This is the first solo exhibition we have staged by the Leipzig-based artist. The exhibition ‘Leise Lachen’ features her characteristic large-format works, in which she processes and draws upon impressions and experiences from the real world. Rink was introduced to art at an early age by her parents, who were deeply involved in the arts, but only later found her own artistic voice. She is now an artist through and through and maintains a close connection to her work.
In Oskar Rink’s work, space, which can be both representational and fictional in nature, is the recurring element. Sculptures, sketches and models form the basis of her work. The artist has a very personal connection to her often large-scale works on canvas. In these, she captures memories, ideas, experiences and desires. The viewer is confronted with compositions that strike a harmonious balance, constantly oscillating between the figurative and the abstract, the familiar and the unfamiliar, chaos and structure.
