About Oskar Rink
Oskar Rink is one of the independent positions in contemporary painting. Introduced to painting at an early age by her father, the painter Arno Rink, she initially studied fashion design and illustration in Munich before going on to complete a Master’s degree at Sotheby’s Institute of Art in London. Having spent time in England, Norway, Cuba and the USA, she now lives and works in Leipzig and Lisbon; since 2022, she has held a visiting professorship in painting at Burg Giebichenstein in Halle (Saale).
In Oskar Rink’s work, space, both representational and fictional, is the recurring element; sculptures, sketches and models form the basis of her work. In recent years, her visual language has expanded: whilst for a long time it was primarily geometric forms and objects that stood in for human experiences, figures and living forms now appear sporadically. Nevertheless, the object remains a central vehicle for memory and meaning. Time and again, everyday objects become emotionally charged symbols that speak of closeness, absence and change.
The viewer is confronted with compositions that strike a balance between the figurative and the abstract, the familiar and the unfamiliar, chaos and structure. Since 2022, Galerie Schimming has been exhibiting her work: Leise Lachen (Sylt 2022), Inbox (2023), Traum(a)land (2025) and Phantom Limb (2026).
