Recent works
from 24 June 2020
Following a first exhibition at our new branch in Kampen with works by Alex Katz and Tom Wesselmann, a selection of recent works by the New York artist Hunt Slonem will be on display from Wednesday 24 June.
These exotic works, in both large and small formats, show vibrantly coloured, expressive motifs of flora and fauna, reminiscent of artists such as Ernst Ludwig Kirchner or Emil Nolde. The serial arrangement of the motifs draws on aspects of Pop Art, whilst the tactile surface texture allows movement and accents of light to flow into the structured composition.
Various species of birds, butterflies and flowers form the recurring central motif of his paintings, which can also be seen as symbols of a spirituality already evident in the early work of the artist, who was born in Maine (USA) in 1951.
