The Fabulous World of Hunt Slonem
from 4 June 2021
The New York artist Hunt Slonem has now taken the world by storm with his ‘Bunnies’, ‘Butterflies’ and ‘Exotic Birds’, and his complete body of work has become an integral part of international private and museum collections. These exotic works, in both large and small formats, impress with their vibrantly coloured, expressive motifs of flora and fauna, reminiscent of artists such as Ernst Ludwig Kirchner or Emil Nolde. The serial arrangement of the motifs draws on aspects of Pop Art, whilst the tactile surface texture allows movement and accents of light to flow into the structured composition. Various species of birds, butterflies and flowers form the recurring central motif of his paintings, which can also be seen as symbols of a spirituality already evident in the early work of the artist, who was born in Maine (USA) in 1951
On display from 4 June 2021 at Jungfrauenthal 4, Hamburg
